Mission Day 2026
This year, some of the countries that schoolteachers and the high school students presented for Mission Day were:
INDIA:
Hinduism is the spiritual and cultural foundation of India, while Christianity, although a minority religion, has a history dating back thousands of years and exerts a significant influence on education and social services.
Tunes:
Tunisia is a country deeply shaped by Islam, but it has a tradition of religious diversity and secularism that sets it apart in the Arab world. It has Catholic denominations, although there are also Protestant and Orthodox communities. Christianity accounts for 0.2% of the population.
Western Sahara
The vast majority of the population is Sunni Muslim, following the Maliki tradition, which profoundly shapes social and cultural life. Islam is reflected in customs, festivals, and community norms. Christianity, on the other hand, is present only in small communities of foreigners and in some settings linked to humanitarian organizations, but it does not play a significant role in Sahrawi religious identity.
Egypt
In Egypt, the dominant religion is Sunni Islam, practiced by more than 90% of the population and considered the official state religion; its holidays, such as Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, and Eid al-Adha, shape the national calendar and daily life. However, Egypt is also home to a significant Christian minority: the Coptic Orthodox Church, which accounts for about 8–9% of the population.
Cape Verde
In Cape Verde, religion is dominated by Christianity, which was introduced by the Portuguese in the 15th century. The vast majority of the population identifies as Catholic (between 73% and 85%), organized into two main dioceses: Santiago de Cabo Verde and Mindelo. Although religious practice has declined in recent decades, Catholicism continues to influence festivals, family life, and community values.
In addition, there are Protestant and Evangelical communities (about 5%), such as the Church of the Nazarene, Seventh-day Adventists, and Pentecostal groups, which have grown in recent years. Other religions, such as Islam and Judaism, have a minimal presence, while a segment of the population identifies as non-religious. Overall, Cape Verde is a predominantly Christian country, where Catholicism shapes cultural identity and Protestantism contributes to religious diversity.
Missions Day 2025
Each year the teachers make a amazing job-presents countries where Christan’s are suffering persecution, and there is a great need for missionaries.
The rooms are prepared to appear as the individual country, and the teachers in costumery dress. The students are taught a few words in the language of the country and are told stories of real missionaries in those countries. They are also taught about the false religion of those countries and what the word of God says in contrast.
It is a highlight of each year!
